Rare Round-Up: Entertainment News of the Week (11/08/2023)

This week has been heavy on new music. Namely, LANY and Dan + Shay have had their latest albums I Really Really Hope So and Bigger Houses, respectively, go up for pre-order.
Both groups have seen rapid climbing success with Dan + Shay’s previous outing, Good Things being the first country album in the streaming era to achieve RIAA gold certification at release, and LANY being described as “one of the most ubiquitous, unpredictable, and undeniable alternative rock bands of this era.”

There has also been plenty in terms of re-releases in the forms of Chas and Dave’s 1981 album Mustn’t Grumble, which includes their two biggest hit singles, Ain’t No Pleasing You and Rabbit. The new special edition re-release comes with a new inner sleeve as well as photos, pack shots and a note by Dave Peacock about the album’s production.
Additionally, Altered Images’ Bite celebrates its 40th anniversary with a special edition that includes an additional disc, new B-sides, 3 single edits and a live track.

On the film side, what an excellent day for a 4K pre-order. Iconic horror movie The Exorcist is seeing a 4K release for the very first time. In a special edition that includes both the theatrical and director's cut, what is called “the scariest movie of all time” gets all the more powerful. On a related note, Rarewaves is saddened to learn of the passing of the film's director, William Friedkin.
As for TV, a year after the show’s original release, Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is coming to DVD and Blu-ray.

In other exciting news, the 1967 half-lost Doctor Who serial The Underwater Menace is coming to home video with the missing parts restored with new animations over the surviving audio.

In books, Suzanne Collins’ bestselling series The Hunger Games is coming together with a deluxe collection that includes the spin-off The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and polished with brand new artwork by Freya Betts.

In the gaming world, the decision-driven Star Trek adventure Star Trek: Resurgence is coming to retail and physical media, having been download only since its initial release earlier this year.
